Rock School 2011

Postby UNB Rock & Ice Club » Wed Sep 21, 2011 9:11 am

Hey Climbers,

Just a head's up that this weekend, the UNB Rock & Ice club will be hosting our annual Rock School in Welsford. We'll be at Bald Peak Saturday and Cochrane Lane on Sunday. The group will likely have a number of top-ropes set up in the right end of Joe's, Pyramid, and possibly Exfoliated. So, in advance... sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. We'll try and be courteous of other climbers in the area so if you've traveled a long way to get on Snakepeel Sunday, just let us know and we won't mind moving our ropes for you. Let me know if you've got any concerns. Thanks for the cooperation.

Thanks for the heads up Chris!

last year, this part was not respected by "some" (very small %) rock school members at the camp site...

I reread my last msg.... The plan was not to sound like a D-Bag, sorry, I just hope we don't get treated like last year!
Cheers

Oh, that route "Snakepeel" sounds cool...maybe I should travel there and get on it this Sunday? :P

Marty means one incident where one of the persons responsible for rock school really freaked out at us and made a huge scene. Like he said this person was definitely not ''courteous of other climbers in the area''.

I spoke with Marty. For the record, the person in question wasn't actually a Rock School volunteer, nor a participant. They showed up and simply joined in our crowd, a bit unannounced.

In any case... it doesn't excuse any rudeness you received. I'll remind those involved this year that we are simply users of the area... equal to everyone else.

Cheers.

Good to know, I just felt it was important to mention it because in the 3 years I've been climbing in NB, it's probably the only ''climber confrontation'' I've had and it was right in front of 20+ beginners. Not the best way to get them into the sport. Especially since climbers are usually laid-back and won't start up a fight over nothing. (this forum doesn't count  )

I'm sorry I blamed this on Rock & Ice, but this person definitely acted like they were part of the ones responsible. My bad for presuming that and enjoy Rock school yall! It's an awesome way to get into the sport and to enjoy what the wilderness of NB has to offer.

In the age of facebook and G+; do we really need [content moderated] content moderation?

Yes Cal, we do.

If you wish to have non-constructive dialogue, I sugest you try out http://www.rockclimbing.com. But in here... it's always been our policy.

it does suck you ran into drama last year but the only thing relating it to rock school is where it happened to happen. i get yelled at everytime im in welsford by tradies for not climbing the pure style but i dont assume all trad climbers are as mormon about it as some. the iffy forecast should be the only consideration keeping you out of welsford this weekend.
