I saw this 1977 Guidebook for the Fredricton area.

That's a pretty unlikely thing to find floating around the internet. I doubt that many copies are still in existence. There are excerpts from that guide online at http://www.climbnb.com/. I really enjoy the cover photo and the similar vintage photo of cheekbone corner on Fred's website.

I had a look at the excerpts and noticed that Pink Panther was listed as a 5.6... is there a story behind that or is it just an extreme case of old-school grading.

I think you'll find it was probably 5.6 A2 at the time of that printing.

Pink Panther was actually a tricky aid climb before we freed it. You have to place a piton straight into the roof and then swing out on it. Quite exciting.
You are, therefore I am. That is the question....

When routes say 'quite exciting' or 'interesting finish' as part of the description in the guide... I've learned to send others up before myself...

See, now that finish on Aid sounds similar to how I finished it one time with Ulysse hand over handing me up after I fell off the roof and was dangling in space. heheh
